Freedom Begins Within

July invites us into celebration.

Across the country, families gather for picnics, parades, fireworks, and traditions that honor our nation's journey toward freedom. As America moves toward its 250th birthday, we are reminded that freedom is one of our most cherished values.

Yoga offers a beautiful reflection of that same truth.

At its heart, yoga is not simply about movement or flexibility. It is a practice of liberation — freeing ourselves from stress, fear, old patterns, and the constant pull away from the present moment. It reminds us that true freedom begins within.

Body-Mind Therapy embraces this same philosophy. When we learn to listen to our bodies, regulate our nervous systems, and connect more deeply with ourselves, we create space for greater health, happiness, and wholeness. And when we experience that freedom within, we become more capable of honoring and supporting the freedom of others.

This July feels especially meaningful for me. My daughter is getting married this month, and I find myself reflecting on the beautiful freedom each of us has to choose who we love, who we become, and with whom we wish to share our life's journey. Watching her step into this new chapter is a reminder that freedom is not only a national ideal—it is also deeply personal.

*Monthly Strategy: The Freedom Circle

Gather family or friends during your holiday celebration.

Invite each person to complete this simple sentence:

"This year, I feel most free when..."

Take turns sharing without interruption or discussion.

Notice what emerges:

  • Freedom to rest

  • Freedom to be authentic

  • Freedom to heal

  • Freedom to love

  • Freedom to grow

  • Freedom to begin again

This simple practice creates connection, gratitude, and understanding while reminding us that freedom can look different for everyone.

As you celebrate this month, may you also pause to notice the freedoms that live quietly within your own life—the freedom to breathe deeply, to move with intention, to choose compassion, and to become more fully yourself.

Perhaps that is one of yoga's greatest teachings:

Freedom is not only something we celebrate.

It is something we practice.

Wishing you a joyful, meaningful, and heart-centered July. -Dawn
